HARROGATE |
Well what a busy time we have had homing the cats and kittens that have come into our care. The busiest holiday month of August turned out to be busy for Harrogate Cats Protection as well, with a new intake of kittens with their mums, and also quite a few older cats. The kittens as always are easy to home as they are so cute and playful. The older cats are not so easy, but never the less by the middle of September we did not have a single cat or kitten to home. Has this been known before, I ask myself!.
The best news is, that following our advert in the Harrogate Herald which told of the story of three cats that have been in our care for a long time, Ben, Bella and Portia, we have found loving homes for all three.
Ben went to one of our ladies Valerie, who helps with our fund raising and also helped to look after our kitties when we had our main shelter. She has two other cats that are FIV positive and was first in the queue to take him. Ben is settling in very well with his newly acquired Brother and Sister. There were token gestures of discontent initially, but the other two are slowly getting used to him A big thank you to Val for taking him.
Bella and Portia have been homed and are settling in well with their new owners.
The other cats/kittens that have been homed since our last issue are:
She was a very affectionate Long Haired Tabby & White cat of around 2 years old. Her new owner wanted a companion for his other cat and I understand they are getting along famously.
No not Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, for those of you who remember the film. Bonnie was a very timid young Tabby, and Clyde was a bigger Long Haired Black cat. One of our ladies who used to help with our Shelter, Mel, had been looking for two cats for quite a while and she jumped at the chance to take Bonnie and Clyde. In her previous home Bonnie was very shy, but after a few days with Mel she was much more relaxed, and her young daughter has become great friends with her. Clyde was a little reticent at first, but both are now getting on famously.
These two young kittens came into our care and were homed within a couple of days. Spoon was Ginger and White and Martha a Tortie & White.
Purdie is a Dark Tortie with a lovely temperament and she gave birth to four lovely kittens:
Purdie and Pudsey found a home together as Pudsey was not as bold as the others and needs a little bit extra looking after. His mum is being very protective of him in his new home. The other three were very cheeky and will no doubt be giving their new mums and dads the run-around.
She was a lovely Golden Tabby found by the police wandering on the road. She was dehydrated and starving when she came to us and looked in a sorry state, but with a little TLC from Bette and Alan she changed into a lovely kitten. She was homed with Paris, and although Paris was much smaller than her, Paris soon established herself as the boss. They have however become great friends and were grooming each other and sleeping together last time I heard.
Mollie and KittensMolly was taken in by a very kind lady who discovered she was pregnant and so she found her way to us. She is a very gentle Tortie and White and produced five kittens:
Molly has been homed with Monty, and Max and Millie went together and are settling in well with their new owners, as are the other three. McAvity was originally thought to be a male, but his new owner got a shock when she went to the vets for a check-up and was told he was a female.
Romeo is a Black/White cat of around five years old. He lived with two brothers and unfortunately his owner has a developed a serious allergy to all three, and has asked for our help in homing him and the other two. He went to a new home with a very cheeky young black female cat, but they have bonded together well and he is now established in his new home. The other two remaining cats, a Black Persian and a Long Haired Black Moggie Male are still looking for homes. The Persian is going to the Persian rescue and I am sure will soon be homed.
This is a particularly touching story. Rory is a four month Grey Tabby kitten who was hand reared by a young man who adored him, but due to his circumstances he could no longer keep him and he reluctantly contacted us to find another home for him. A family had been waiting for a male kitten and he has now been re-homed and has settled very well. The man of the house is besotted with him and he is adored by the rest of the household. He is very cheeky and I am sure will keep his new owners entertained with his antics for many years.
Domino is a young Black and White kitten who has been tested as FIV positive. He is absolutely gorgeous and needs to go to a loving home with someone who understands that he may become ill, and will therefore need more treatment at the vets than any other cat. He has captured the heart of everyone who has seen him. Unfortunately he would be better suited to an indoor location where he will not come into contact with other cats. If you feel you could offer him an extra special home then please contact us.
